ANOTHER new housing development could be given the go-ahead this week.
Planners are scheduled to discuss the proposed construction of about 250 homes near the North Swindon District Centre at a meeting tomorrow night.
The development, named Middle Clover, would consist of a mix of one and two-bedroom flats, and two, three and four-bedroom houses. The proposed site is a six-hectare area that lies directly to the south of junction seven of the Northern Orbital road, and to the north of Haydon End Lane.
Until recently the land has been used for agricultural purposes. It was earmarked for development within the Haydon 3 town expansion scheme.
Coun Ian Dobie (Con, Haydon Wick), lead member for social services, said that as long as the houses were in keeping with the overall development plan he would support the proposals.
"We need to keep building these houses in order to accommodate new people coming into the town for work," he said.
But Haydon Wick Parish Council has objected to the application on the grounds that the development will not include enough parking spaces.
It fears a shortage could lead to parking on the road and restricted access for emergency services.
The planning meeting, at the Civic Offices in Euclid Street, starts at 7pm and is open to the public.
