Ref. 29272-48PUPILS at Toothill Primary School have embarked on a major project to help future generations learn about the history of West Swindon.
They are hoping to bring together stories and photographs dating back to the 1970s before launching the information on a website.
Last year the school beat 200 others to win a £5,000 BT award for its project, with some help from pupils from Oliver Tomkins Junior School, Toothill. It is hoped the result will be a resource the community can use for years to come.
As well as historical data the project will contain digital pictures, taken by pupils, depicting the West Swindon of the 21st century. Head teacher Richard Jackson said the school's photography club would act as the focus of the project.
The school is appealing for anyone who might have pictures from West Swindon's past to get in touch.
"We are asking people to look for old photos of the area and donate or email them for use in the project," said Mr Jackson. We are particularly interested in pictures of Toothill being built and facilities like the library being opened."
Anyone with pictures or other information that may help the project can email admin@toothill.swindon.sch.uk, or call 01793 497250.
