Chance to express your emotions through poetry

The opportunity for budding poets has arrived this year's Swindon Poetry Competition is now up and running.

Local people aged 16 and over are being encouraged to put pen to paper and express their feelings and emotions through poetry.

The theme this year is Spirit of Swindon.

To follow in the footsteps of Tennyson or Wordsworth just take your poem to any Swindon Council library by Thursday, April 8.

The entries will be judged by the Festival of Literature panel, which includes director Matt Holland.

Eight winning entries will be selected and the winners will each receive a framed copy of their poem and a book voucher. The poems will also be read out during a special programme on Swindon FM. Only one entry is allowed per person.

Last year's competition was a huge success, with all the poems on show throughout Swindon.

The idea for the Spirit of Swindon competition came from Julia Drown MP. It is jointly run by the Swindon Learning Partnership and the Swindon Festival of Literature.
