Pan-tastic performance

Ref. 12342/1CONTESTANTS tucked into scores of pancakes in a bid to be crowned fastest chomper in Shertson for Shrove Tuesday.

Entrants came from as far afield as Bristol as well as locally to tuck into the pancakes at the Rattlebone Inn in a bid get their name on the coveted winners' frying pan.

Organiser, the Sherston 1016 group, which raises money to help hand out food boxes to the elderly at Christmas, said 17 people competed to see who could down four pancakes in the fastest time.

Eating styles ranged from those who gorged all at once or ate one piece at a time.

The winner of the competition was Mark Plummer, of Filton, near Bristol, who managed scoff four pancakes in just 40 seconds.

Simon Wilson, 13, of Little Somerford, won the junior competition when he ate four pancakes in just one minute five seconds.

The names of both winners have been put on the commemorative frying pans, which will be displayed at the Rattlebone Inn.

Ingredients were all donated locally and prepared by the chef at the pub. Richard Langley of Sherston 1016 said event raised £40 towards the charity's funds.
