Birthday boy Ossie packs them in for City

THE 'full house' signs were up at Salisbury City's Sarum Suite on Friday night for a Sportsman's Dinner with former Southamp-ton, Chelsea and England striker Peter Osgood.

'Ossie', one of the few players to have won the FA Cup with two different clubs, was joined by cricketer-turned comic Denis Bundy for an entertaining evening which concluded with an auction of football memorabilia. A signed Saints shirt plus a Manchester United shirt signed by Roy Keane were among the items sold.

After entertaining guests with an often humourous summary of his illustrious career, Osgood, celebrating his 57th birthday, paid tribute to his former Saints team mate Nick Holmes and wished him and the club success this season. "He's a lovely guy and he's doing a good job for you here. Keep on supporting him."

Holmes said afterwards: "It was a really good night. With the auction items that were sold, we raised more than we probably expected to. It shows that feelings are good within the club even though we're having a bit of a blip on the pitch at the moment. Hopefully we'll put that right this weekend."
