Campaign for broadband

BUSINESSES and homes in Coombe Bissett and Homington are backing a campaign to get high speed internet access.

British Telecom has set a trigger level of 100 subscribers to register, following which it will upgrade the telephone exchange for broadband.

Currently 81 people have registered.

Bill Imeson, who started the campaign, said: "High speed internet access is essential for local businesses and people who occasionally work from home.

"The trend towards media-rich websites and downloading audio and video mean that more homes also want fast access.

"We are now within sight of reaching our goal."

Salisbury MP Robert Key has been a prime mover in getting BT to focus on delivering this technology to rural areas and has welcomed the Coombe Bissett and Homington initiative.

Residents wishing to support the campaign should log on to www.bb4cb.co.uk to register.
