Fitness studio looks to open longer hours

A BUSINESS that has been in existence for only two months has had such a good start it is already looking to open longer hours.

The Courts fitness studio at Old Sarum, which opened its doors on January 1, is run by Dave Taylor and his 18-year-old son, Aron.

Mr Taylor, who has been an instructor for ten years, has worked in gyms in Salisbury and managed a health and fitness centre in Andover, said he had been looking for premises near Salisbury for some time.

In the Courts, two ex-army squash courts in Green Lane, he had found a good building with plenty of parking, he said.

One of the courts had been converted into the gym and the other will be retained as a squash court and also used for aerobics classes, kick boxing and martial arts.

"We currently open Monday to Friday from 5pm to 9.30pm," he said, "And we are planning to open daytime during the week and on Saturdays.

"Things are going well and I've had three times the number of people join than I expected."

Mr Taylor (40) said his aim was to be flexible and give people freedom of choice - they could have full gym membership for £15 a month or choose pay as you go.

That £15 fee would remain for customers signing up at that price.

Customers have an induction session in which they are shown how the machines work and, on signing up to pay monthly, can have a fitness assessment and an exercise programme written especially for them.

Mr Taylor also wants to help young people in the area by providing somewhere they can meet and enjoy exercise classes.
