Elaine gets her hands on new car

Ref. 29180-38ELAINE Clements is feeling a little dazed this weekend having stayed awake most of the week to win a Hyundai Getz car.

Elaine was the last one standing out of the ten competitors at Swindon's Designer Outlet Village.

They started at 10am on Monday, all intent on keeping both hands on the £7,500 car, with the last winning it.

Finally, at 7.05am on Thursday, Elaine, 37, was declared the winner after 69 hours. She had not slept in that time.

The rules said that contestants in the GWR competition were allowed ten minutes break an hour and 20 minutes break every 12 hours.

Elaine, of Nythe, who is an office administrator for Thamesdown Bearings, said: "I feel pickled in the head.

"I enter a lot of competitions but I've never had to work for something like this before.

"I really had to concentrate on not scratching myself if I had an itch."

Elaine's husband Gordon also entered the contest and came third.

Their children Daniel, 13, Ceriann, 11, and Harley, two and a half, who were looked after by a friend during the week, are looking forward to the to the new car.

Gordon, 39, is no stranger to this kind of competition.

In 1998 he drove away a Ford Ka after keeping both hands on it for 79 hours.
