It's a down to earth way to raise money

Ref. 29145-14SWINDON CANCER APPEAL: THESE daredevils from the Great Western Hospital are preparing to plunge 100ft down the side of an office block.

Among those planning to abseil off the top of the WH Smith building in Greenbridge are members the hospital's cancer team.

Hospital chief executive Lynn Hill-Tout is also among those taking part in the event, on Saturday, May 1.

Graziella Campisano, appeal manager, hopes the abseil will raise £10,000.

And she urged more people to sign up, saying: "We still have many places left, so come on and sign up.

"The view from the top of the building is amazing, and this is a way to challenge yourself and raise cash for us at the same time. Many people have abseiled from the building for charity, and they have all enjoyed it.

"It will be a very exhilarating experience."

Michael Wilson, cancer services manager, 32, is scared of heights, but is still taking part.

He said: "I can't even drive over the Severn Bridge, but I am doing this because I see the good work Macmillan nurses do on a day-to-day basis. I will just close my eyes and let go."

It costs £10 to take part, and a minimum of £100 in sponsorship is needed.

Anyone interested should call the Macmillan office on 01793 601636 to register.
