Ssshhh! Silence is golden for pupils

Ref. 29072-02SWINDON CANCER APPEAL: CHILDREN at Goddard Park Primary School were among thousands across the country to hold their tongues for Macmillan.

The Big Hush, which is sponsored by the Swindon-based Nationwide Building Society, raises around £250,000 every year.

Among those taking part in the sponsored silence was pupil Jaymelee McCarthy, 9.

He said: "I have raised £15 from my friends and relatives."I managed to keep quiet for half an hour."

The school was visited during the event, last Friday, by Jacqui Goldhill, Macmillan corporate fundraising manager, and Tim Hughes, head of external affairs at Nationwide.

Tim said: "Youngster are keen to support Macmillan because many of them have had relatives who have been touched by cancer."We are delighted to be able to sponsor the event."
