North Star A stay on course for hat-trick

CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE: NORTH Star A and West End Wanderers are the first clubs through to the semi-finals of the Rainbow Launderette-sponsored WG Parr Trophy.

Second division North Star progressed at the expense of last term's beaten finalists Four Seasons. who were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline.

Ronnie Kallmeier fired the Star ahead and although the Division Three leaders got back on level terms through Marcus Young, they were unable to repeat the magic of last season that saw them lose out to Maud Heath Sports in the final.

Tommy Ludford's goal 15 minutes from time proved to be the winner for the Calne-based team who are still in the hunt for glory in the Knockout Cup as well as being in second spot in Division Two.

West End Wanderers may be struggling at the wrong end of the Division One table but they proved to be too good for opponents Colerne FC who were undone by a Wanderers team that on the day would have been a match for any of the top clubs.

Colerne, who lifted the trophy in 2002, led through goals from Jamie Bowler and Richard Smart, but Wanderers' will to put a disappointing season behind them saw them prevail as Steve Berine, Tom Staddon, Simeon Mills and Colin Garbutt netted the goals that took Wanderers through to the last four.

Division Four

PAUL Hussey's bizarre goal from the halfway line helped Classic FC defeat Fascia Graphics 2-0. Hussey's up and under was spilled over the line by the Graphics keeper after 15 minutes and Mike Outen bagged a second goal 15 minutes from time.

Steve Tucker was White Horse FC's man of the moment. Playing in his 100th game for the Westbury club he opened the scoring for his side who went on to beat Rowde 3-0. James Bagnell and Chris Sims added the other goals.

Premier Division

BOTH Westbury Rangers A and Dog and Fox Ashley had to come from behind against respective opponents Terry's FC and Winsley to keep alive their slim hopes of stealing the title away from long time leaders Sherston Town, who have their destiny in their own hands after their 8-2 demolition of Box Rovers saw them maintain their lead over the chasing pack.

Sherston have three games remaining and need to win two to be certain of the title which should be a formality with games left against Hullavington, Terry's and Bradford News.

Doubles for Antony Vizard and Andy Wicks plus singles from Richard Skull, Ed Wilkins, Lee Bevis and James Higgs saw Sherston to win number 14 of the season. Tim Jefferies and Tom Smith netted Rovers consolations.

A stunning Luke Harfield goal plus Dan Lardner's opener for Winsley gave them a half-time lead against near neighbours Dog and Fox Ashley. Two early second half substitutions turned the game in the Dog's favour as Andy Backman put through his own goal to start as comeback. Steve Roddy (2, one penalty), Dan Cottrell, Russell Whatley and Matt Cottrell were the other marksmen.

Terry's surrendered a two goal advantage against Westbury Rangers as Rangers came back to make it four wins on the bounce with a 3-2 win. Paul Beavers deflected Mel Messaoud's shot past his own keeper for Terry's opener and Andy Colebrook gave Terry's a two goal cushion at half-time.

A half-time team talk from Rangers management team of Shaun Gardiner and Mark Parker worked wonders as Pete Ayton (penalty) and a brace from Marc Lanfear saw Rangers claim all the points.

Bottom of the table Calne Town are just one defeat away from relegation after they lost 4-0 at home to The Duke Corsham, who took the lead early on when Darran Hughes slid in to whip the ball home following a quality cross from Neil Blackman.

They doubled their lead after 20 minutes when Martin Blackman's through ball was headed towards goal by Lee Fuller. Calne's keeper failed to hold onto to the ball which dropped kindly to Frank Rogers who tapped home from close range.

Early in the second half Luke Chapman went close to extending The Duke's lead when he turned quickly in Calne's half before unleashing a blistering strike that produced an outstanding save from Calne's keeper. The Duke's third goal came when Rogers drove home a Hughes cross. The Duke finished off their impressive display when another Neil Blackman delivery caused havoc in the Calne defence which resulted in captain Hughes smashing home his second goal from close range.

Division One

AFTER a two week lay off leaders Biddestone Social returned to action and their mini break seemed to have done them the world of good as they turned in an awesome display to defeat Chippenham Sports and Social Club 5-1.

Biddestone took the lead through Jamie Lyons, who flicked home a Pail Poiner cross in the 11th minute. Lyons made it 2-0 when he crashed the ball home from 10 yards on 27 minutes and from then on there was no way back for Chippenham as further goals from Steve Healy (48 minutes), Lyons, who completed his hat-trick in the 54th minute, and Paul Poiner followed to seal their victory. Darren Whiston replied for Sports.

Chippenham Police moved out of the bottom two after their 2-2 draw with promotion chasing Maud Heath Sports. The Police led 2-1, thanks to goals from Steve Davis and Zack Newton, and they had the opportunity to move 3-1 in front but Davis had a penalty well saved by Sports' keeper Jodi Whiston. The miss was to prove costly as Adie Simpkins added to Justin King's earlier strike to earn the Sports a valuable point. For both players it was their first goals of the season.

The George Lacock were guilty of missing two penalties against Semington Rovers. Both misses came at crucial stages in the game and proved the undoing of The George as they suffered a 3-2 defeat. Lee Carpenter was first to miss from the spot when his effort cannoned off the post, this before Stuart Barber and Alan Clarke scored to give Rovers a 2-0 advantage.

Tom Weeks halved the gap for The George but when Tim Culling sent his attempt from 12 yards over the bar the villagers knew it was not going to be their day. Although Culling made amends for his miss with The George's second goal it was not enough as James Eatough's third for Rovers proved to be decisive.

The Horse and Groom trailed Trowbridge Harriers 3-1 before they staged a revival to snatch a 3-3 draw. Matty Hobbs, Michael Hillier and a Paul Aland own goal looked to have given the Harriers both points only for Paul Daly, Paul Bendell (penalty) and Dave Appleyard to save a point for The Horse. Harriers had a chance to win it in the final minute but Paul Aland atoned for his earlier own goal when he somehow cleared Ali Stokes goal bound shot off the line.

Division Two

ROADRUNNERS FC suffered a miserable day in their match with Christian Malford.

Having been forced to switch the match to Upper Seagry, Roadrunners could field only 10 players and despite Andy Zuk giving them a 1-0 lead they crashed to an 11-1 defeat. Shaun House led the scoring with four goals, Chris Pitman added three and Scott Evans (2), James Kick and Matt Thompson completed the romp.

Somerford also found themselves 1-0 down away at Southwick Sports but like Malford they hit back to hit double figures after Steve Jackson had given opponents Southwick the early advantage. For the first time this season Somerford had the luxury of fielding their strongest possible side and Southwick were put to the sword as Gary Chandler's outfit hit a purple patch in front of goal to score tean goals. Chris Yeo (4), John Goad (2), Steve Gore and Richard Chandler and from Gavin Klukowski, which included a phenomenal strike from 18 yards, set Somerford up nicely for this Sunday's WG Parr Trophy clash with Chippenham Sports and Social Club.

Leaders Corsham Centre extended their 100 per cent run to 15 matches as they cruised past Blue Circle Saints. Craig Gingell (2), Kevin Brown, Luke Denham, Simon Gray and substitute Andy Keogh, who netted for the first time in five years, made up the Centre's half dozen as they won 6-0.

North Bradley and Holt FC shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Craig Brown's thunderbolt put Bradley in front and with Gary Brooks in inspirational form for Bradley between the sticks Holt had to plug away to earn their point, which arrived when Tom Pang stabbed home following an error from Brooks.

Division Three

PARSONS Nose took full advantage of leaders Four Seasons' cup involvement to close the gap on their rivals to just two points with a 6-3 win in their Melksham derby with Cooper-Avon, who led 2-1 at the interval.

Wayne Bailey (2), Rick Noonan, Mark James, Ricky Sullivan and Craig Townsend were the Nose's scorers with Alex Shaftoe (penalty), Andy Morrison and Mickey Harrison replying for the tyremen who would have been hit for double figures had it not been for the heroics of their keeper Shaftoe.

Old Lane United turned in their best performance of the season to defeat Corsham Park Rangers 5-1. Kelvin Page's opener for United was cancelled out by Paul Smith, whose 30 yard free kick drew the sides level. Colin Bales regained the lead for United before Ben Husband, Luke Stoneham and then Mike Austin, who capped a fine personal performance when he headed home United's fifth, got on the scoresheet which should alleviate any lingering doubts United may have had about facing a relegation battle.

Potterne FC were 4-0 up at the break against Sir Audley's Arms who despite hitting two quick goals at the start of the second half were unable to complete the comeback as Potterne added another two goals to run out eventual 6-3 winners.

Andy Beavan-Witts (3, one penalty), Johnny Emm, Ben Giles and Darren Brown were Potterne's hit men. Beavan-Witts was allowed to complete his treble in the 90th minute after team-mate Brown had a penalty saved by the Arms keeper John Witts. The kick was ordered to be retaken and the hat-trick hero stepped up to tuck the ball away. Steve Mallard (2) and James McLaughlin replied for the Arms.

Westbury Rangers B emerged victorious from their rearranged match with Bradstone Rovers and in doing so sent Bradstone below the relegation trap door. Goal from Shane Rendell and Steve Wyatt earned Rangers a 2-1 win. Alan Eades hit Rovers' consolation.
