Last minute try helps ease relegation worries

AN 80th minute try by replacement winger Dave Barlow saved Salisbury from the ignominy of a second defeat to Frome and moved them a notch forward in their fight to avoid relegation.

Salisbury's first half performance was immaculate with Tim Shepsey's opening try arriving after only seven minutes.

Frome looked overawed to be playing at the Castle Road ground and when Dave Bell marked his return from injury with a converted try, closely followed by a third touchdown from Pete Upton, Salisbury's victory seemed secure.

But early in the second half, influential flanker Nick Triniman was sin binned and Frome seized the opportunity to run in three tries in the time he was off the field to take a two-point lead at 19-17.

With the clock running down, Bell and Olsen called on the same tactics used by England in the dying moments of the World Cup.

Olsen kicked long for touch and the pack won the line out to maul and ruck their way upfield.

With Frome's forwards all committed, Olsen sent the ball along the backs and winger Dave Barlow hit the perfect line of running to steam in for the match-winning try.

On Saturday Salisbury travel to the Purbecks to face high-flying Swanage and Wareham.
