Smith is on song as leaders bow out of KO Cup

The only surprise in the second round of the Swindon Indoor Cricket Association's KO Cup came when Civil Service defeated league leaders Swindon by 41 runs.

Solid batting at the top of the order enabled Civil Service to post an imposing 147-3, Sean Smith top-scoring with an unbeaten 39.

Although Roger Willoughby hammered a rapid 38 in reply, Swindon were never scoring fast enough and closed on 138-3.

Shrivenham booked their place in the next round with a hard-fought victory over Asians 2nd in the final over. Chasing only 86 to win, Mark Whale anchored the innings with 26 not out.

Wroughton 1 crushed Swindon 2 by six wickets but Wroughton 2 were unable to emulate their seniors success and were crushed by a similar margin by Asians.

An entertaining match saw Highworth overcome Nalgo 3rd by just nine runs, having looked in trouble at one stage.

Simon Green top scored with 31 not out as Highworth set a target of 108, and although Nalgo batted steadily they could not up the ante.

Nalgo 2nd suffered a better fate as they defeated Ramsbury from Division 3 by 39 runs thanks largely to Sandy Steele-Davis' 53 not out, and New Generation were far too good for United Churches, beating them by 68 runs.

The only league game saw Wanborough maintain their challenge for promotion from Division 2 by slamming Litten Tree by 64 runs.

Tom Clinning made 30 not out as Wanborough totalled 127-3, and Litten Tree were unable to recover from 19-4 and were bowled out for just 63.
