SWINDON-born adventurer David Hempleman-Adams is to receive an award from the Duke of York in London next month.
Mr Hempleman-Adams, who is 46, will receive the Solomons Trophy at the Royal Aero Awards ceremony in honour of his record-breaking flight across the Atlantic in an open basket balloon in September last year.
The presentation will take place on March 9 at the Naval and Military Club in St James' Square and will also feature an award for David's back-up team, who guided the explorer from an office block in Bath.
David, who now lives in Box, near Bath, with his wife Claire and their three children, became the first man to cross the Atlantic west to east in a traditional wicker basket balloon after aborting two previous attempts.
He flew from Sussex in New Brunswick, Canada, and managed to land in a field near Blackpool.
