This snowman is not going to melt

Ref. 29079-27LITTLE Jade Thompson loves a snowman she made so much that he is now living in the freezer.

Mr Snowy White has been put on ice for the last month to stop him melting away forever.

Jade, six, made the snowman during the cold snap on January 28, complete with stones for eyes and waistcoat buttons, and sticks for arms.

But like the little boy in Raymond Briggs' The Snowman, she was distraught when he began to melt.

Unlike the little boy, however, she decided on evasive action, and as Mr Snowy White is only about 18 inches tall, the freezer did nicely.

Jade lives in Inglesham Drive, Penhill, with mum Vicky, 26, and baby brother Dylan, 11 months.

Vicky, who looks after her children full time, said: "When it snowed, Jade made a little snowman and called him Mr Snowy White.

"He stood outside the front door.

"But when the weather warmed up, he started to melt and Jade was so upset."

She was so very upset, in fact, that drastic measures were called for, and Mr Snowy White was carefully removed from outside the house and taken to his new home.

Vicky said: "Now when you open the freezer door and look inside, Mr Snowy White looks back at you!"

Jade is a fan of the cartoon classic based on Briggs' book in which a boy builds a snowman who magically comes to life and takes him on a spectacular adventure.

She is not, however, a fan of the moment at the end of the film when the boy wakes the following morning to discover that the temperature has risen and his friend is now little more than a pool of water.

She also loves Jack Frost, a 1998 film in which Michael Keaton plays a man who dies tragically, only to returns from the afterlife in the form of a snowman to see his infant son.

Mr Snowy White was safely installed in the freezer before the warmth could do much damage, and is looking as well as ever.

There is no time limit on his tenure. Vicky said: "We're going to keep him for as long as we're living here Jade is quite sensitive about Mr Snowy White."

However, the addition to the family has meant adjustments having to be made to the household shopping schedule.

Vicky said: "When I go to the shops, I have to make sure I only buy a few items of frozen food so I can avoid damaging the snowman."
