Are you holding the right card for a collector?

A NEW Zealand collector wants to hear from Swindonians who have old unwanted Mondex cards.

Bruce Phillips, who lives in Christchurch, is building up a collection of the cards, which were used in several Swindon stores during the mid-1990s.

The cards, which were piloted in Swindon in 1995, were labelled as revolutionary, consumer-friendly, smart cards. Customers "charged" their cards at their banks and then used the credit to make purchases.

Sadly, the scheme never caught on and they faded away. Mr Philips can be contacted via email on bruce_phillips@xtra.co.nz. Alternatively cards can be posted to 30A Taupata Street, Christchurch 8008, New Zealand.
