NO elections will be held to fill the seats of Amanda Dickson and Tom Lloyd, who resigned from Wootton Bassett Town Council late last year.
Instead, the existing council will choose two people to fill the vacant seats in the North Ward.
The decision to co-opt was taken after a statutory period during which North Wiltshire District Council did not receive any public requests for an election. The town council will now decide who it wants to co-opt, and if necessary hold internal elections.
Coun Dickson resigned in November, claiming the council was run by a 'clique that had more power than the council'. Deputy mayor Tom Lloyd resigned in December, citing a long list of reasons ranging from too many meetings to "deliberate over-complication of accounts" and disgust at the council's grants to "arty-type players".
The council will also decide whether to appoint a replacement to fill the deputy mayor's position for the rest of the civic year.
