Contract with M@Donald's

Wootton-Bassett firm Data Vision Europe, a designer and manufacturer of industrial lifestyle computer terminals, has secured the contract to install more than 1,200 internet terminals across the McDonald's chain of fast food restaurants.

In January 2003, just three restaurants participated in a trial of the DVE terminals but, with store managers and franchisees alike impressed by the positive public response, a further 28 restaurants were kitted out with screens.

This year however, McDonald's has given the go-ahead for a further 236 stores to be e-media wired.

Mike Kellond, the managing director of DVE, said: "McDonald's challenges presented DVE with the opportunity to exercise its proven skills to deliver innovative e-media and touch screen public internet access solutions to a mass audience, which should exceed more than ten million people each month in the UK by the end of this year."

Fiona Nicholls, the operations manager for 30 McDonald's stores in the East Midlands added: "I was not in favour of the internet terminals and was concerned that they would detract from the business of selling hamburgers. However, since their installation, I have found them to be an asset to the stores."

DVE claims its terminals offer a milkshake and burger-proof computer solution with their solid oak frames and stainless steel keyboards which compliment the busy fast-paced environment of McDonald's.

The terminals allow diners to send and receive e-mails, surf the internet and play interactive games.

DVE was set up eight years ago and its clients include the British Museum, BT, Customs and Excise, WH Smith and London Underground.
