Points shared as title rivals draw a blank

TROWBRIDGE LEAGUE: THE continuing bad weather decimated the league programme.

One Division One game and one in Division Three survived. The top flight clash between bitter rivals Castle Combe and Broughton Gifford ended goal-less with Combe's recently appointed new boss Steve Tadhunter salvaging some lost pride after a 7-0 A and B Cup debacle back in December.

Three excellent crosses from Steve Rosling paved the way for Semington Magpies to claim a fourth Division Three success at the expense of Bromham Reserves who they conquered 7-1 in the Spring Cup a month before.

All the goals came in the first half with Dan Phillips' opener being wiped out by Bromham's Steve Escott whose effort was judged to have crossed the line. Phillips converted another Rosling centre before Jamie McDine took his goal tally to 20. Magpies' victory was tarnished when Simon Hillman was red-carded in the second half.

In the A M Print and Copy-sponsored Spring Cup Castle Combe Reserves join Semington Magpies as semi-finalists but it took a second half Marcus Young hat-trick to finally break the resolve of The Stiffs who battled back to wipe out a two-goal deficit and then produced another equaliser.

Dave Chitson with his first goal in three years and a superb Chris Rawlings free kick established Combe a two-goal cushion before a Simon Marks penalty and Nathan Litterick brought Stiffs level before the break. Young's first met a reply from evergreen Nick Bush before Combe's recent signing added two more with Scott Evans completing a 6-3 win.
