Wives get tips on improving IT skills

ARMY wives are enjoying a boost to morale through a new course designed to help them brush up their skills, look their best, and find a new direction in life.

Wiltshire College has teamed up with the Services Cotswold Centre in Neston, a base for military personnel in transit, to offer help to the wives.

The New Start course was specifically designed by Wiltshire College's IT division for women who were at a crossroads in their life.

The first eight women to take part, all aged between 20 and 30, attended during school hours one day a week for three weeks in the college's Mobile Learning Unit.

As well as being taught IT skills they also gained word processing skills and were given advice on updating their CVs and presentation skills.

College careers adviser, Kim Hunter, gave advice on completing application forms, local career opportunities and job seeking.

The final day was entitled How to Look Your Best at Interview.

Confidence was boosted with staff from the college's hair and beauty department giving makeovers, and offering practical advice.

Head of IT, Sandra Seldon said: "We've had a great deal of positive feedback from the centre and from the women who participated.

"It's very encouraging and we now hope to roll out the course throughout the region."
