Robert saves the day for leaders Faringdon

Division One leaders Faringdon Town were fortunate to defeat bottom-of-the-table Benson AFC 1-0 thanks to a superb run and shot from ex-Oxford United youngster Robert Lovegrove 10 minutes before half-time.

Faringdon keeper Mike Kelly made two excellent saves, somehow managing to keep the ball out from very close range in the first half and tipping a shot from Benson player-manager Simon Lee around the post in the second.

Ardington & Lockinge's Matt Searis was on target four times against Kintbury Rangers as his side caned the reigning champions 6-0. Gary Ward and Danny Hogan completed the tally. It was Kintbury's heaviest defeat since their return to the league in 2000-01.

Two early goals from Paul Hamilton and Ben Hopkins put Lambourn Sports on course to a 3-0 success over Drayton that keeps them within three points of the top.

A further goal from substitute Romulo Moreira completed the score-line while a first-half goal from Andy Smith was enough to give Blewbury a 1-0 win over Long Wittenham.

In Division Three, unbeaten Appleton (Abingdon) extended their run as they held to a 1-1 draw by promotion rivals Radley. William Jefferies was on hand to get the Appleton goal but they lose ground on Buckland, who won their local derby against Faringdon Town Reserves 3-1. Alex Jordan put Buckland ahead, only for veteran Andy Cook to equalise before the break Goals from Ben Harrison and Stephen Holder sealed the points in the second half.

East Hendred Reserves remain in touch after winning 3-1 at home to Hagbourne United, thanks to a pair from Jason Fisher and one from Pat Aguila. Meanwhile.

The brief flirtation with the relegation abyss seems to be a forgotten thing for AFC Wallingford A as they hammered Hanney United 6-2 with Andy Allum netting twice.

In Division 4, several Kingsclere players were unavailable for the match at Challow United due to a wedding but manager Allan Doig called on two fringe players for their debuts and persuaded two to miss the ceremony. It paid off with two goals for Roger Jones and an own goal by Martin Turnbull.

Marcham Reserves kept a strong interest in promotion as they overcame Drayton Reserves 2-1 with goals from Brian Viner and Huw Mellor.

Ardington Reserves failed to trouble the scorers for the first time this season as they were held to a

0 -0 draw by Uffington Reserves. Benson Reserves kept their good home record going as they defeated Faringdon Town A 2-0 with goals from Jodie Martin and Steve Harry.
