Name of pedestrian killed on A419 is released

A PEDESTRIAN who died after being hit by a car on the A419 has been named as Claire Albright.

The 39-year-old from Park North was struck by a blue Ford Focus near the junction of the A361 in the early hours of Friday morning. The former nurse is believed to have been single and to have lived on her own.

Police and ambulance crews attended the scene and she was taken to the Great Western Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The driver, a 33-year-old man from Lambourne near Hungerford, was not injured but suffered shock.

The northbound carriageway was closed at the junction of Edison Road and at the Merlin and Commonhead roundabouts.

The closure disrupted early morning traffic until the road was re-opened at around 8am.

The incident happened an hour after a lorry carrying beer overturned as it was leaving the Commonhead roundabout. The driver suffered slight head injuries but did not receive hospital treatment.

Witnesses to the fatal accident have been asked to call police on 01793 528111.
