Couple's love stays steadfast through 60 years

Ref. 28965-39THE Tower Ballroom in Blackpool was the venue for a meeting which has led to 60 years of happy marriage.

Jack and Christine Spackman, who are 83 and 84 respectively, are originally from London, but retired to Wootton Bassett in 1988 to be near family.

The celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on Thursday with friends and family.

The couple met in 1941, when Mr Spackman was in the RAF, where he saw action as a navigator in Halifax bombers.

Mrs Spackman was a civil servant.

Six decades, three daughters and six grandchildren later, they remain as happy as ever.

Asked for the secret of long and happy marriage, Mr Spackman said: "I suppose it is a certain amount of luck in choosing the right person to start with, but we just gelled together.

"We share our troubles and we share our joys.

"She has looked after me very well."

Mrs Spackman said: "The main thing is that your love stays right through the years and you learn to understand one another.

"You have your ups and downs, but if you remember how much you love each other and that love stays steadfast, you will win through."
