£3.6m innovation centre to open in January

Work on Swindon's £3.6 million Managed Enterprise and Innovation Centre is due to start in March, with units finally becoming available for occupancy from next January.

MBEC specialist Basepoint plc is developing the 1.9 acre site at Rivermead Industrial Estate, West Swindon, with an aim of providing a mix of fully serviced office and workshop units for small and start-up businesses.

According to Robert Cleaver, chief executive of Basepoint: "Swindon represents an exciting opportunity for us.

"Its central position in the south of England, excellent communications and status as host to a large number of nationally important companies makes it a critical business hub for the region.

"The high number of business start-ups testifies to the area's commercial vibrancy and we are confident that our new MBEC will provide an important resource to the local economy."

Ian Fairburn, director of Midas Construction, which has scooped the contract to build the new centre, added: "I'm confident that the demand from the small business sector will be extremely high."
