Smart turns down move

CALNE Town have been given a boost by Darren Smart's decision to turn down a move to Melksham and stay at Bremhill View until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old defender, who has been at Calne for the three and a half seasons, said he felt it was the wrong time and probably the wrong club to move to.

He said: "I am not interested in moving at this time of year. We have 15 games left and I would rather move to a new club, if I go anywhere, in pre-season.

"I also think Melksham are the wrong club. They are not doing anything this season and when we played them I didn't think they were much better than us.

"I will think more seriously about a move into higher league football in the summer."

Smart's decision will prove even more important to manager Kelvin Highmore after he found out defender Eddie Drury will be going to Australia in March.

Highmore said: "Eddie is a player I believe in and when he told me that on Tuesday night it came as a bit of a bombshell.

"I will have to start to look at bringing a new defender in to cover for him."

Calne have no match tomorrow.
