Wiltshire Wood Recycling's achievements recognised
The achievement of community wood recyclers, which includes Wiltshire Wood Recycling, has been recognised.
The National Community Wood Recycling Project - on behalf of its member companies - has been named Materials Recycler of the Year in the small and medium enterprises category.
Wiltshire Wood Recycling, based in Castle Combe, is one of the project's 27 member companies.
It collects waste and surplus wood from building sites and industrial units as well as furniture and other items suitable for recycling.
The wood is re-used in a variety of ways with good quality timber being sold for DIY and professional use at competitive rates.
The company also makes and sells garden furniture, planters, composters and raised beds, chicken and animal houses as well as bespoke items of all descriptions.
Wood that cannot be reused is sold as firewood and kindling.
Most of the staff are volunteers and the company offers work experience to young and disadvantaged people which gives them the experience and confidence to enter the labour market.
Ed Brand, managing director, said: "This award is well-deserved recognition for the work that we do in preventing useful wood going into landfill and we believe our local community benefits from this."
