CHIPPENHAM Tri Club is reflecting upon a successful 2015 campaign after little more than a year in existence.

Since their formation in 2014, the club has grown to over 40 members, including experienced and novice triathletes with many taking part in the club’s Monday night swim sessions.

“There is a real buzz with 20 swimmers of all abilities across five lanes,” said club chairman Chris Maxwell.

“We’ve seen some amazing progress from members who could hardly swim 25m."

The foundation of coached training sessions translated into impressive performances this year.

During the course of the season 35 adults and 10 children raced for Chippenham Tri, the club also establishing a championship series of local events to focus member’s participation.

Lynsey Carpenter and Michael Bright were the inaugural winners.

In addition to the 23 triathlon debuts this year, five members completed the ultimate triathlon challenge - an Ironman, as well as achieving excellent results at international level.

Neil Lewis came 16th in the European middle distance Age Group Championships in Rimini, while Maxwell was 31st in the Olympic distance Age Group World Championships in Chicago.

Richard Schofield finished 39th in the World Half Ironman 70.3 Age Group Championships in Austria and Peter Cusick was second in the European Duathlon Age Group Championships.
