Louis Thompson is focused on life at Swindon Town despite reported interested from elsewhere

First published in Sport by

LOUIS Thompson has stressed that his “heart is with Swindon” amid speculation regarding his future at the County Ground.

Both the midfielder and his brother Nathan are being monitored by a host of clubs in the Championship and League One, but Louis is not going to let the reports get to his head.

While conceding that being linked to clubs such as Leeds United and Wolves acts as an ego massage, the younger Thompson sibling is insistent that he Nathan are both fully focused on the task at hand at Swindon Town.

“You just laugh it off. If you don’t get told anything you don’t believe it anyway. I don’t get myself involved in that stuff. It rubs your ego if you’re linked with anything but that’s all it does. You’ve got to be careful not to read too much into it and keep your feet firmly on the ground,” he told the Advertiser.

“It can soon go to your head before you know it. I think, for me, and I speak on behalf of my brother as well, we wash that stuff straight under the carpet as soon as it comes out and performances need to be up there where they were last year, if not better.

“At the moment it’s just about performing for the team and getting wins.

“From the age of six you’re being linked with all sorts of moves everywhere.

“You’ve got to keep your head in the game, we’re contracted to Swindon for now and for the future and, for me personally, my heart is with Swindon so I’ll keep performing for them and keep doing the best I can for them.”

Good news to start the day. Louis just needs to work on his metaphors now. "Wash that stuff straight under the carpet?"

This is going to be a good year. Two or three more signings and we will compete.

What a level headed young man, nice to read he and his brother just wants to play football for Swindon, it just goes to show it's not all about the money with all players, puts some of the premier prima donna's who hold their club to ransom if they don't get the move they want to shame.

Nice to hear that from Louis. Nice to know that he can walk the talk on the pitch. In my view, he just got better and better last season and it will be interesting if he starts as first choice in the holding midfield role. He'd get my vote.

OTR - surely you don't believe that if a club came in with a two year contract at double their Town salaries that they both wouldn't go?
Also this forum makes me laugh - we have an article about two contracted Town players getting 7 comments while one about a loanee signing for a month loan gets 50+ - weird!

Can't moan about an STFC player saying his heart is at STFC though - you can on the other thread!
.
Really looking forward to seeing him develop this season and agree with MC that him Luongo and Kasim are an excellent midfield

LR I don't disagree with the sentiment but the cynic in me tends to think that "the heart on the sleeve" will only last until someone makes them an offer they can't refuse. For me more important to keep LT than NT. As you say LT, Mass & Kasim in midfield is an exciting prospect but IMO they all need to show more bite in the tackle more consistently than they did last season and chip in with a few goals as well lol!

Agree to an extent - but unlike others don't think they will just move for money
.
I think they will want to ensure they are playing and the move is good for their career - where others just see the money and don't care about the other side
.
No one can blame a player for moving on if they have developed beyond the club - then if the deal is right for all it is time to move on
.
Don't think that point has come yet - especially for LT who only has one season under his belt
.
I think they need to make Yaser the holding player and work on his tackling - especially if he is to drop into the sweeper role at times - then we would have a better balance
.
LT would become box to box as we saw against Sheff U and Brentford how effective he can be at that and Luongo pushed forward as he is a real star
.
Ideally we would land a real general to play with LT and ML who are my first choice - but we can't afford one - so w ehave to make do with what we have and Yaser is a fine player at this level so not too worried
.
CB - asnothe rstory and even with the Derby lad would like at least one more in to feel comfortable - Stephens would put my mind at rest.
