WILTSHIRE batsman Jayden Levitt reckons the county side’s new-found strength-in-depth played a huge part in their nine-wicket Unicorns Championship win over Berkshire this week.

The county side’s stunning season showed no signs of subsiding as they notched their tenth victory of the summer, carving out a 14-point lead at the top of the Western Division.

After Joe King had starred with the ball, captain Mike Coles and number nine Tahir Afridi sparked a sea-change midway through Wiltshire’s first innings as their runs pushed the county towards an emphatic comeback.

“The opponents are getting tougher as the season goes on but we haven’t just got the same guys performing every week,” said Levitt.

“If players at the top of the order aren’t performing, then the tail-enders step up, which is what Tahir, who hit a game-saving 70, and Jake Roberts did.

“We’ve added players with maturity this year and I just think there’s a good vibe in the squad and we’ve built up some good momentum.”

Richard Morris (104) and Stuart Davison (70) were among the runs for Berkshire, but a fine six-wicket haul from Wiltshire’s King saw the hosts skittled for 282.

Wiltshire were 118-5 at the close but Afridi, Coles (58), Adam Miles (32) bit back as they reached 314 on day two.

Afridi (3-26) and Ed Young (3-9) then destroyed Berkshire’s second innings for just 106, leaving Henry Langford (34 not out) and Levitt (33) to help steer Wiltshire home with ease.

Wiltshire have named their squad for Sunday’s Knockout Trophy semi final against Oxfordshire at Bicester and North Oxford CC (11am).

Wiltshire team to play Oxfordshire: Michael Coles (Corsham, captain), Tahir Afridi (Henley), Joe Breet (Lechlade), Neil Clark (Potterne), Tom Foley (Corsham), Henry Langford (Brockhampton), Jayden Levitt (Bromsgrove), Adam Miles (Cardiff, wicketkeeper), Ashur Morrison (Corsham), Tom Morton (South Wilts), Jake Roberts (Potterne), Ed Young (Potterne).
