SKIPPER Troy Batchelor believes the spirit and determination his Robins side showed in Thursday’s victory over Leicester could prove vital as they make a charge for the play-offs.

The Blunsdon side beat the Lions 48-40 despite having to do without both Dakota North and Nathan Greaves after they were forced to withdraw from the meeting after suffering injuries in their first rides.

But Batchelor was proud of the way his side pulled together to get the result and, as they look up the table, the Aussie knows they need to show similar levels of desire if they are to make the play-offs.

“It wasn’t looking too good for a bit there and with the rules only Stevie could take the rides, so there were a few races there where we only put one rider in which made things pretty hard,” he said.

“To win and get all the points is a really big thing for us and I’m proud of all the boys, but we have to show that amount of determination all the time.

“Leicester haven’t been going too well this year but they had some really good riders in the team, so we didn’t have it easy and had to ride hard to win.

“On the plus side we won, got all the points and showed some spirit and determination but, on the bad side, the two riders who are injured need sorting out.”
