CRICKET: Errors the difference for Dennett

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Joe King bagged three wickets for Corsham during Saturday’s defeat Joe King bagged three wickets for Corsham during Saturday’s defeat

SKIPPER Pete Dennett reckons it’s up to Corsham to cut out their errors and get back to winning ways.

The Station Road side slipped to a narrow six-run defeat at Weston-super-Mare last weekend and Dennett thinks a number of mistakes were to blame for his side coming out on the wrong end of a tight encounter in Somerset.

“We could easily have won three from three but results are the things that matter most and we’ve won one and lost two,” said the Corsham captain.

“We let them score 25 or 30 runs more than they should have and bowled 20 wides, which has been a bit of a running theme in our season.

“We then had a few guys who made starts with the bat but then never went on to get those big scores – 30s and 40s are nice but you need to be getting 70s and 80s to win games.

“It’s all things in our control and we just need to try and cut out those silly mistakes. Hopefully next week, we’ll have played four, won two and lost two.”

Corsham bowled first after winning the toss, with Joe King taking 3-29 as Weston were skittled for 184 in the penultimate over, with the hosts’ Gary Morgan top-scoring with 48.

Weston’s Sam Trego piled on the pressure as he took 4-22 and despite Steve Bullen (46), Dennett (38 not out) and Ashur Morrison (33) fighting back, Corsham fell short as they were all out for 178 midway through the 48th over.

Corsham, who are currently sixth in the Premier One table, host newly-promoted Taunton Deane this weekend.
