No home comforts for Greaves just yet

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Nathan Greaves Nathan Greaves

NATHAN Greaves will be venturing into the unknown this evening when he makes his home debut for Swindon Robins.

Having never raced at the Abbey Stadium before, Greaves was due to make his first appearance in front of his own fans on Thursday against Leicester but saw that chance ruined by the rain.

However, another opportunity has quickly come along and he will turn out at Blunsdon for the first time in front of the Sky Sports cameras when Belle Vue visit tonight.

While Greaves is looking forward to his Wiltshire debut, he admitted the Abbey Stadium track will be far from home soil, for a little while at least.

“The first time I have ever seen the Swindon track will be on Sky so it should be a good one,” he said.

“I was on Sky last week against King’s Lynn and that was good but I’m really looking forward to riding at home, although it doesn’t really feel like it’s at home because I’ve never been there before.

“After the first few times I’m sure it will feel okay and maybe after I’ve ridden there once, got used to the fans and how things work down there, it will be okay.

“Swindon beat Belle Vue earlier in the season but they didn’t have me that time so hopefully I won’t let the boys down.”

The 16-year-old’s tough baptism to Elite League speedway continued at Eastbourne on Saturday night where he hit the deck three teams in a meeting where he failed to score, but the youngster insisted he was still able to take plenty from the clash.

“I think I fell off more times than I did races to be honest but I learnt a lot from it even though I scored no points,” he said.

“I’m enjoying it as well which is good because I am always learning, although it would be nice to score a few points while I’m doing it too.”
