OJO'S INSIDE LINE: Sharks trip has been a problem
1:30pm Friday 4th October 2013 in Sport
THERE’S little doubt that Bath’s game up in Manchester against Sale Sharks tonight could be a real banana skin game for them.
Bath have had their problems with this fixture in recent years and it seems to have been an issue for them.
I can remember a number of seasons where they have won handsomely down at the Rec and yet been turned over in the corresponding fixture up north.
If they don’t go into it as well prepared as they might, or are just a percentage or two down on where they should be, there is every chance they will get turned over by the Sharks.
They go into the game on the back of a bonus-point win over London Irish and, frankly, they would have expected no less beforehand.
I think that, in Irish, we saw a side which is going to be battling against relegation this season.
The important thing from Bath’s point of view was that they got maximum points out of the game – they did what they needed to.
You have one or two guys at Bath putting their hands up when it comes to the matter of England selection for the upcoming November Test matches.
The likes of Dave Attwood, Kyle Eastmond and Jonathan Joseph have all been in the frame, but this goes hand in hand with their club side performing.
If Bath are going well, there is going to be a greater opportunity at international level for these guys.
At Trowbridge, we suffered our own frustrations last week in the defeat at Wimborne.
Sometimes, you reflect on a match and think ‘how did that happen?’ I was really baffled because the performance was great.
Ultimately, it came down to missed chances. We had at least seven chances within five metres and didn’t take them.
That’s what cost us.
