PYJAMAS and bananas were the order of the day for children and staff at Sutton Benger Primary School, as they held a Big Breakfast event to mark Fairtrade Fortnight.

More than 160 youngsters tucked into fruit buns, banana loafs, muesli cookies and fruit smoothies at the school on Chestnut Road, Chippenham, in their pyjamas, with all the food donated by the local Sainsbury’s store.

“It was a national campaign which lasted two weeks but we decided to do it for three days,” said teacher Kate Baldwin.

“All the children came together in the hall and shared what they did which included making the food before we ate our Big Breakfast.

“It was a definitely a success, both staff and children got behind it and it widened their awareness that the food we eat comes from across the world.

“They also got the idea of Fairtrade and how it helps the producers and farmers.”
