A POLICE employee was attacked early this morning in Devizes.

The incident happened at the London Road junction with Roundway Park between 12.10am and 12.15am today.

The victim, a 24-year-old local woman, was walking alone when she became aware of a group of four males walking behind her.

As she approached the junction to Quakers Walk, the group started shouting verbal abuse her.

As she reached the junction with Roundway Park, one of the men in the group ran up to her and pushed her in the face, causing her to fall into a bush.

The group then headed along London Road towards the town centre.

The victim sustained cuts to her face and hand.

The male who assaulted the victim is described as white, aged in his late teens to early 20s, about 6 ft tall and possibly clean shaven.

Inspector Nick Mawson said: “This was a frightening experience for the victim, who fortunately, was not seriously injured as a result of the incident, but did sustain minor cuts and bruising, and was shaken up by the ordeal.

“Enquiries are ongoing at this stage, and I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the London Road area between midnight and 12.30am to contact myself via 101.

"Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously if preferred.”
