Father-of-two Stephen Baker completed an exhausting four-day cycle ride from London to Paris on Friday to raise money for his youngest son Ollie.

Three-year-old Ollie has spastic diplegia, a form of cerebral palsy, and needs an operation to help him get around unaided without his walker.

Mr Baker, 43, of Victoria Drive, Lyneham, works for Haines Construction in Calne and cycled with Paul Rumming, a self-employed kitchen fitter, and Gary Harris, who works for Wilkins Builders.

His boss Kevan Haines planned to ride with them, but had health problems so cycled the last few miles into Paris instead.

Family friends Kev Turner and Julian Tillyer, both from Hilmarton, drove a back-up van behind the trio with Mr Haines.

Mr Baker said: “It was a relief to get into Paris, you can see the Eiffel Tower from miles away and then we lost it and thought we had gone by it, but we didn’t get lost in the end. I think the killer bit was on the last day when we had a big hill to climb.

“It feels great to have finished. It means that I have done something towards Ollie’s operation and not just sat back and let everyone else do something.”
