Rowde Parish Council has agreed to produce plans to replace the ageing pavilion on the sports field.
A number of options were discussed at a public meeting in the village hall last month attended by just over 40 people and the parish council agreed with the consensus that a new activity centre be built.
The centre would be used for different activities and would have an extended hall, which could be used by the youth club.
The initial cost for a wooden building is between £80,000 and £90,000 but a brick building will also be considered.
The parish council agreed a business case be prepared and to apply for grants, with the primary funding source expected to be a Lottery fund via Sport England.
