Two-year ASBO for Marlborough drunk
Aggressive Duncan Tanguay was arrested for causing trouble on a Swindon bus less than 18 hours after being handed an ASBO for a string of public order offences.
Tanguay, of Five Stiles Road, Marlborough, was convicted on Friday of seven public order offences dating back to September last year.
His offences included; committing racially aggravated public order toward school children in Swindon; verbally abusing staff in a Minstral store; verbally abusing staff in One Stop Shop; being drunk and disorderly in High Street; verbally abusing staff in Tesco; and using threatening violence in London Road.
Appearing in Swindon Magistrates’ Court on his 39th birthday, Tanguay was given a two-year ASBO which prevents him from entering Castle and Ball Hotel, the Bear Hotel, The Lamb, the Green Dragon, The Wellington, The Marlborough, the Crown Hotel, the Queen’s Head, The Roebuck, One Stop Shop and Waitrose.
He was also ordered to take part in an alcohol treatment plan.
At around 9.30am on Saturday morning Tanguay was thrown off a bus to Swindon after acting inappropriately towards passengers. When a police officer arrived on the scene Tanguay used homophobic language towards him and was arrested.
On Monday, Tanguay appeared in Swindon Magistrates’ Court again and was found guilty of a Public Order Act offence and was fined £100. Sergeant Barry Reed, of Marlborough Neighbourhood Police Team, said: “Mr Tanguay is well known to the local officers who have, over a four-year period, worked alongside Aster Housing, Wiltshire Council and alcohol support services to tackle the cause of his offending behaviour.
“Over the past several months we have seen an increase in Mr Tanguay’s disorderly behaviour, most recently in Marlborough when he approached a 67-year-old male who was looking into an estate agent’s window at 10.30am on a Sunday morning.
“He gave the gentleman verbal abuse and tried to head butt him.
“While I am conscious that Mr Tanguay is alcohol dependant, this behaviour will not be tolerated.”
