Marlborough branch of the Macular Society received a boost when the town’s golf club presented a cheque for £846.

Alan Pryor, Marlborough Golf Club seniors’ captain, nominated the Marlborough Macular Society as his charity for the year and presented the cheque to its chairman, Linda Chapman.

He said: “It’s a tradition at the golf club for the various captains to raise money for worthwhile causes and I wanted it to be local and relevant to our members.”

The money was raised through donations from the senior team, which holds competitions and social functions at the club.

The Macular Society helps people with issues of living with impaired vision.

Ms Chapman said: “We set up a local support group in Marlborough in 2012 and now have 14 members.

“This will help us provide subsidised transport to events which would normally not be open to members such as visiting a National Trust garden or going to a concert. We are growing and hope to attract new members.”
