Good news for Chippenham Town Council energy deal

Chippenham Town Council has chosen two local companies for its electricity supply and IT support.

Councillors voted to sign up with award-winning renewable energy company Good Energy, which has had its headquarters in Chippenham since 1999.

Council leader David Powell said: “Chippenham Town Council is committed to using renewable energy resources, getting best value for every penny of the public money it uses and, where possible, supporting local businesses. Good Energy has enabled us to achieve all of those aspirations.”

They will also be using IT Solutions 4 Business Ltd, based in Notton, near Lacock.

Sue Wilthew, chief executive of the town council, said: “Chippenham needs to be loud and proud about the range and quality of service providers that are on our doorstep. Look local first.”

And are these "best for Value" contracts or expensive for the sake of showing support for local business.

Oh what does it matter, we'll still see the town Council raise the Local Precept in the Council Tax go up by the legal maximum AGAIN

Absolutely.
Trouble is these people (Town Council, Wiltshire Council) are self designated 'experts' very good at criticising the public sector.
However they are never subject to a thorough analysis or audit of their actions.
Quite how they think they provide value for money is beyond belief. We get a lot of meaningless guff - 'Loud and proud about local services', when in reality they lurch from one **** up to the next.
The time will come when people will realise that outsourcing is not the way to provide value for money. Without a properly resourced IT service run by Wiltshire council and used by other councils within the county they will all end up going to different one man and his dog outfits.
The next **** up is waiting in the wings.

Is it just me or are there others out there who just cringe every time local councillors attempt to use a bit of faddy management speak? "Sue Wilthew, chief executive of the town council, said: “Chippenham needs to be loud and proud about the range and quality of service providers that are on our doorstep. Look local first". If the council has done its research, due diligence and taken up references on these companies, fair enough, they may well be good service providers - time will tell. But as the council has only just signed them up, normal business practice is to praise the providers after they've proved themselves - not before! God help us.
