Swindon Town under-18s striker Botan Ameen has received a call-up to the Iraq under-20 team ahead of their AFC Asia Cup Qualifiers.

Ameen has had a fantastic season in the Town academy, notably scoring both goals in the 2-0 win over Manchester United under-18s in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.

The youngster scored three goals in total in his four FA Youth Cup games as he was a big part of the club’s first trip to the quarter-finals since 2007; was a regular goal scorer in the Youth Alliance League and Merit League One; and has regularly been training with the Swindon first team and will now take his first steps into international football.

The striker has been handed his first call-up by Iraq and will head to their training camp ahead of the upcoming AFC Under-20 Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers as they look to go a step further than they managed in 2023 when they finished runners-up to Uzbekistan.

Ameen follows in the footsteps of former Town midfielder Yaser Kasim, who won 21 caps for Iraq and made the semi-finals of the AFC Asia Cup with them in 2015, having also represented them at under-23 level.
