Drivers have been warned about road closures and diversions that are expected to take place this month in Marlborough.

From Monday, May 6 to Friday, May 10, both Angel Yard and Oxford Street in Marlborough will be completely closed to the public while the roads are excavated.

In Angel Yard, this five-day operation will include digging a narrow trench in the road to install four-inch ducting which will provide fibre optics broadband to nearby properties.

This means that the road will be closed from its junction with the A4 to its junction with Kennet Place, and a diversion route will force motorists to use Kennet Place, The Parade and the High Street instead.

In Oxford Street, where similar works are taking place, motorists are being diverted via New Road and Barn Street.

Both of these temporary road closures are expected to only worsen traffic from the ongoing Stonebridge Lane roadworks being carried out by Wiltshire Council, which could last up to 18 months.

Other road disruptions expected to affect Marlborough this May include:

  • Bridewell Street - temporary traffic lights from 8am on Saturday, May 11 to 5pm on Sunday, May 12. This is so that Thames Water can carry out utility repair and maintenance works
