Plans have been revealed to convert a closed town centre Chinese takeaway into a new Thai cafe in Wiltshire.
Lucky Eat Chinese Takeaway, at The Bridge in Chippenham, has appeared closed for some time and internal works are currently ongoing at the unit.
WaraThai, a Thai restaurant that opened last year on Granville Road in Melksham, has submitted a planning application to make alterations to the shopfront signage at the premises.
Shousong Wu, the restaurant’s director and owner, confirmed to this paper that he planned to launch a new, “different” venue in Chippenham.
He said: “It was previously a takeaway and we want to convert it into a Thai cafe where there’s some space to eat, but we will also do some takeaway services.
“We’ve been open for around six and a half months but we want this to be a very different, separate business.”
The plans show what the town centre unit could look like if the conversion goes ahead, with new WaraThai Cafe signage set to be placed above the shopfront.
A public consultation will run on the proposal until May 9, ahead of Wiltshire Council deciding on whether the external works to the building can go ahead.
A deadline of May 28 has been set for this decision.
